We need you!

Do you have more than a passing understanding of the political situation in your state or a state near you? We need contributors who will help us write overviews and contribute blog posts. States we'd like to see covered first include Indiana, Virginia, Maine, Massachusetts, and Arizona. Let's talk! editor@speakingwithout.com

Did they pull the plug too soon?

Matt Rothschild from The Progressive magazine asks that question in a thought provoking editorial from April 23rd.

It’s been weeks since we’ve had a huge mass protest in Madison. The failure by the leadership of the labor movement to keep calling people out in historic numbers has given the impression that things are dying down here.

He continues and shares some uncited, yet interesting information.

Kasich: 100 days of loathing

The Ohio Democratic Party sent me an email this morning to tell me that Kasich has been Governor for only 100 days. It has felt like 100 years. The email lists all of the things that Kasich has done to the great people of Ohio. Here are some:

*He has waged war on the middle class.

*He took away collective bargaining rights from our public servants.

*He proposed a state budget that will destroy communities, impose backdoor tax increases and cut vital services.

*He sent 16,000 infrastructure jobs to other states.

Petition SB 5

On Friday, the Ohio Attorney General approved petition language for the repeal of Senate Bill 5, so Ohioans can begin to collect signatures to place SB 5 on the Nov. ballot. The goal is to get 400,000 signatures by the end of June. The Ohio AFL-CIO will have referendum petition training on these days.

Fully loaded!

The Ohio Senate passed a bill that will allow people carrying concealed weapons to enter a bar or restaurant, but if that person is caught drinking, they will be charged with a felony. Republicans say that people should be trusted.

On the backs of workers

For the past several weeks, Republicans and Democrats have been arguing over the numbers of Ohio's Senate Bill 5 (SB 5), which will limit collective bargaining in Ohio.

UPDATED: Election uncertainty in Lake Mills, WI

Sounds like strange things are a foot in Lake Mills when it comes to the vote:

Because of problems with its tally seats<sic>, the township has not officially reported any vote tallies as of yet to Jefferson County and that means that between 700 and 760 votes have not been entered in the statewide totals for a seat on the state's highest court.
